Mr. Dustin K. Wiley

Director of Bands

Mr. Wiley is now in his 10th year of music education. Mr. Wiley began his career working as an assistant to high school directors during marching band and concert band seasons conducting sectional rehearsals and field drill rehearsals. Later on Mr. Wiley began teaching private lessons in the Kent/Ravenna area where he began to hone his skills as a teacher. He taught students on Clarinet, Sax, Violin, Bassoon, flute, and a variety of other instruments.

Mr. Wiley obtained his first Director of Bands position at Tohatchi High school in Tohatchi, New Mexico. During his tenure at Tohatchi High School the band program grew from just 6 students in grades 6-12 to 160 in grades 6-12 and 70 in the high school band alone. Mr. Wiley was fortunate to have won several awards while at Tohatchi including:

  • 3 time Esprit De Corps winner (Music in the Parks)

  • 3 time Best in classification (Music in the Parks)

  • 2 time Best overall Instrumental Performance (Music in the Parks)

  • Runner-up Directors Choice Music Festival 2004

  • 5th Place 2003 New Mexico State AAA Band Competition 

  • New Mexico State Runner-up AAA Band 2005

  • 3rd Place New Mexico State AAA Band Competition 2006

  • 2002 Teacher of the Month- Gallup McKinley County Schools

  • 2006 Teacher of the Month- Gallup McKinley County Schools

  • Teacher of the Week The Gallup Independent 2002

  • Numerous Superior ratings

Mr. Wiley is now in his third year of teaching in the Lorain City School system. During his tenure at Lorain Admiral King High School he has implemented several strategies to build the instrumental music program and ensure success for years to come. Mr. Wiley has participated in district wide curriculum development, including expansion of the Music Studio at Lorain Admiral King High School, and is currently a member of the Superintendents Fine Arts Committee. During his tenure at Lorain Admiral King high School Mr. Wiley has led the Marching band in several parades including marching in Orlando, Florida at the Walt Disney World resort.

  

Mr. Ira Cooper

Assistant Band Director

Mr. Ira Cooper teaches Choir at General Johnnie Wilson Middle School and is Assistant Band Director at Lorain Admiral King. Through the years he has taught Choir at Lorain Admiral King High School, Lorain Southview High School - also Assistant Band Director, Lorain Middle School, Whittier Middle School, Masson, Emerson, Fairhome, Washington, Hawthorne and Garfield. Mr. Cooper has produced and music directed stage musicals at Lorain Admiral King High School and Lorain Southview High School during his tenure as Choir Director at the two high schools. He is currently a member of the Superintendent’s Fine Arts Committee.

After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Findlay University, Mr. Cooper earned his Master of Church Music degree from Concordia University in River Forest, IL. He is currently Director of Music and Organist at Ridgewood United Methodist Church  in Parma. 

 

 

Mrs. Carol Burke

Assistant Band Director

Mrs. Burke is currently the director of instrumental music at Longfellow Middle School.  In the past 28 years, she has taught computer science classes at Lorain Admiral King High School, general music classes at Palm Elementary and Lakeview Academy, and band and orchestra at several of the elementary schools in Lorain.

 Mrs. Burke received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University.  She then went on to get an Associates Degree in Computer Science from the Firelands Campus of BGSU and a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University.
