History

  • February 1960 Construction Begins on the $5-million Admiral King High School it is located at 2600 Ashland Avenue but was first planned to be built at Washington Ave. and West 23rd. It is named in honor of Lorain native Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King. King was appointed Commander in Chief of the United States Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations by President Franklin D. Roosevelt following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was the first Five Star Admiral in U.S. naval history and many military historians believe King to be the greatest naval commander of the 20th Century. Local veterans organizations petitioned the school board to name the building in honor of King.

  • 1961- Admiral King High School opens as Lorain's Second High School.

  • October 29, 1961 Admiral King High School is officially dedicated.

Admiral King High School Alma Mater

Hail to our colors gold and blue
Hail to our alma mater true.
Through out the years we shall stand by with pride
we'll keep your standards high.
The values we establish here,
will make our memories ever dear.

Oh Admiral King so strong and bold,
our endless love can ne'er be told.
The light that you created here,
will be a beacon through the year.
And bring us always home to sing,
The Glory of our Admiral King.
